League of Australian Heroes

First patrol, 5 April 2008

The League of Australian Heroes went on patrol yesterday, loading themselves into the jet car early in the morning and dashing off to help a single mother move house. She had a lot of furniture and no way of loading it all safely onto the van so the LAH were happy to help her out of that bind.

Sun Dragon displays his mutant ability of mastery over office chairs:

El Hombre Mysterioso stops a 400 TONNE box of kitchen wares from crushing a bus full of nuns and orphans. Well, sort of.

Hombre marvels at how Krimson Koala singlehandedly moves a wardrobe which is many times his own size.

Sun Dragon and Captain Australia size up their opponents and confer on how best to battle their evil ways.

Mission accomplished, all items moved to new premises with no breakages caused by the LAH. Those evil boxes of books and unbolted bed frames how now learnt the error of their evil ways. Justice has been served!!!

Okay, it wasn't the most glamorous of missions but the LAH helped get someone out of a jam. And they were REALLY thankful. They actually tried to give the heroes some cash to put towards their costs but they had to refuse since that's not the way of the hero. (Well, except Luke Cage, Hero for Hire I guess.)

It was hard work - moving house SUCKS. Especially because they were wearing masks that limited thier vision and 'battle armour' that limited their movement.

On the way home afterwards they stopped off in Broadmeadows to take a photo outside of a friend's house. The kind folk of Broady didn't really know what to make of them.

They'd also worked up a thirst so they stopped by a drive through bottle shop on the way home - in the jet car, in full costume. :D

The LAH is on the air!!!

The League of Australian Heroes got another plug in the Age yesterday. It's rapidly becoming our favourite newspaper!!

And make sure you tune in to the Drive show with Lindy Burns on radio ABC774 tomorrow (Wednesday) between 3 and 4pm to hear an hour-long interview and chat with the Krimson Koala during their superhero special. The KK goes live to air!!!!

If you don't have a working radio or you don't live in Melbourne you can stream it from their website:
http://www.abc.net.au/melbourne/

People will be allowed to ring the station to ask questions so I hope to hear from some of you!!
The station's number is 1300 222 774 (talkback)

UPDATE: Because of the extreme weather in Melbourne all the interviews on ABC774 were cancelled because the station serves as an emergency station in cases like this.

The interview has been moved a week ahead to Wed 9.

League of Australian Heroes

The LAH is in the papers!

We've been a bit quiet as of late. The LAH TV ad gained a lot of attention for us but not many people actually got in contact with actual problems they needed help with so we never really got the chance to go out on patrol, which was the entire point of that advertising campaign.

Luckily the media is starting to come on board on help us by passing along the message to their audiences. We had a lovely article in yesterday's Age newspaper:

Many thanks to Suzanne Carbone for her efforts in advancing the League!

We're also doing a photo shoot later this week fort another newspaper article. We'll be setting out in the jet car for that one, keeping an eye out for trouble along the way.

The LAH is on the air!

This weekend marked the premiere of the League of Australian Heroes' TV ad on free-to-air commercial television. We'd like to thank Channel 10 for their friendly and generous help in this endeavour.

Here at Hero Central we've already seen a small surge in the number of blog comments and text messages we've received, and we've also noticed that there's quite a few websites linking back to the youtube version of the TV ad. Hopefully the word will continue to spread and we'll soon be firing up the jet car and rocketing off onto the streets of Melbourne to render super aid where it is needed.

If you missed the ad remember that it's always available on youtube here. If you really want to see it on TV then it will be replayed again later in the week, twice on Friday night and four times late on Saturday night.

Thanks to everyone who has left a comment so far, hopefully you'll all stick around to enjoy the adventures of the LAH as they happen!

League of Australian Heroes

Welcome to the League of Australian Heroes blog!

If this is the first you've ever heard of the League of Australian Heroes then perhaps you should have a quick look around our main website:

http://www.leagueofaustralianheroes.com.au/

Or even check out our TV ad:

The League of Australian Heroes are a group of everyday guys from the city of Melbourne who have decided to help people and have fun while they do it. There's a real stigma in Australia against admitting that you need help with something and we figure that if we go around dressed as superheroes people will be more likely to ask us for help because:

A) Having a team of superheroes turn up to your house in their jet-powered patrol car is just plain awesome; and

B) We look so stupid that it's hard not to feel better about yourself by comparison. :D

The LAH is a non-profit organisation that we fund out of our own pockets. We'll never ask for anything in return for our services except maybe a firm handshake and the knowledge that our efforts helped you in some way or at least cheered you up.

We look forwards to being able to help you in whatever troubles you, to share our adventures with you via this blog and to hear your thoughts on this grand adventure which we're embarking on. Welcome to the League of Australian Heroes!
